Friends of Abington Seniors

The Friends of Abington Seniors, Inc. is a group that evolved out of the Council on Aging building committee.  During the past few years the Friends group has stepped up time and again to help out at the Senior Center, paying  for a brand new state-of-the art commercial kitchen, a public address system for the 300 seat auditorium and the dining room area, purchased dining room chairs and tables and added flat screen televisions to the dining area for patrons’ enjoyment.

Meals are also provided at the Senior Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:30 AM. The Tuesday meal is both cooked and hosted by the Friends of Abington Seniors, Inc.  The Thursday meal runs from September through most of June as it is provided through the school system.

The “Friends”, also known as the FOAS, continued their remarkable support to the senior community by stepping in and paying for COA salaries and the heat and electricity for the Senior Center from November of 2009 through June of 2010 after the town removed COA funding from the budget at last fall’s Town Meeting.  Stepping into the breach, the FOAS provided crucial bridge support over the past eight months, which has allowed most of the services which we take for granted to keep running.  We cannot thank the “Friends” enough for their kind support!
