The COA offers transportation service throughout Abington as well as parts of surrounding towns through our handicapped-accessible van.
Our “greenwave” van was made possible two years ago by a generous donation from Anderson Insulation. Rides are offered for a minimal cost to those seniors who need transportation to get to doctor and hospital visits as well as run errands to the pharmacy, grocery shopping, bank or hairdresser. One day a week there is even a run to the mall.
Dial-A-Bat Bus door to door Services are available to seniors age 65 and older and anyone who is disabled. The service travels to locations in Abington, Avon, Brockton, Bridgewater, East Bridgewater, West Bridgewater, Whitman and Stoughton and to selected Boston hospitals. The cost of a trip within Abington is $5.00 round trip, $7.00 round trip for surrounding towns and $15.00 round trip to Boston. A trip to Boston must be booked two days in advance before noon. Boston trips are only Wednesdays and Fridays. Other trips must be booked by noon the day before the trip. Call Jean Connell at 781-982-2145 for more information.
Council on Aging Van travels to neighboring towns between 9am – 1pm. Door to door service is available for medical appointments, bank, hairdresser, pharmacy, etc. $3 round trip, pay the driver. Van travel as far as Brockton Hospital and South Shore Hospital area. Rides for grocery shopping also available. You must be able to handle your own bundles. Free rides to Senior Center. Call the COA between 9am – 12:30pm, Monday to Thursday to make appointment. 781-982-2145.
Friday Morning Shopping Van. We will be using our trusty van to get you to either the Hanover Mall or another local shopping mall or area. We will pick you up at either Chestnut Glen or Shaw Ave around 9:15. We will pick you up at the mall at 12:30 getting you home around 1 or 1:15. Cost for trip is $3.00. Each week we will alternate between malls. I hope this works for everyone so give us feedback if you use the van.
